THEMEWhen asked what was her best day at Family Promise of Waukesha County, a guest answered that it was her first day because she was able to see "my kids sleeping in a bed." After two months in her car, doing everything in her power to keep her family's experience of homelessness a secret, sleeping in a bed with a pillow, under the covers, being read a bedtime story and falling asleep with a roof over their head had to feel like a luxury. No family, no child should ever have to sleep in a car or a tent. They all need a bed to sleep in. Even though homelessness in Waukesha County is often hidden, there is an urgent need for shelter because of a housing crisis. In 2022 we referred over 800 households to other resources. The increase in rent, low supply of apartments, especially affordable options, and wages that have not kept pace has put an enormous strain on families seeking housing. Even though our capacity has grown, we are not meeting the need. The proceeds of this year's golf outing will support our shelter/housing programs. Adding the new Community Shelter Program to the Apartment Shelter Program will allow us to double our capacity. Yet shelter is only a temporary solution. Our ultimate goal is to help families achieve permanent housing. Our 69% success rate demonstrates that our approach prevents chronic and generational homelessness. We hope July 24 will be a beautiful, sunny day for you to enjoy the surroundings of the Oconomowoc Golf Club with good friends and with the knowledge that you are changing the lives of vulnerable families.

OCONOMOWOC GOLF CLUBOconomowoc Golf Club is a private club designed by Donald Ross. The club describes the course as, "challenging golf with a high playability factor for the entire family. We provide the highest level of course grooming; a world class practice facility; a full range of high spirited events and memorable dining surrounded by scenic views. All in complete harmony with our Donald Ross designed golf course and the breathtaking glacier formed landscape." Perhaps the Donald Ross Society states his design legacy eloquently, “We believe that golf courses designed by Donald Ross are works of art. Open greens allowing a run-up approach shot, a layout following the natural contours of the land, shallow bunkers and greens whose surfaces are perched high above the surroundings are his trademarks.” Jack Nicklaus states it even more succinctly. “His stamp as an architect was naturalism.” He left golf courses which always seemed to fit into the environment.
