05. STRATEGIC GOALS

Six months into the year, an update on how is Family Promise doing with its 2025 goals?

Mission

It is important to us that all of our friends, supporters, volunteers, and donors know what we are focusing on to develop the organization. We pride ourselves on being transparent with both our sucess and failures. Therefore we share with you now an update on our goals for 2025. These goals were established in the fall of 2024 during a board planning session faciliated by Lindsay Moore, the Regional Director for Family Promise. Here is a summary of our four goals and an update on their progress. This includes our success as well as opporunities still in front of us.

Goal 1: Financial Stability.

Family Promise has seen a significant growth in services, clients served, employed staff and

expenses over the past five years. Our budget jumped from $212,000 in 2019 to $1.1 million in 2025. At the end of the 2025 we hope to increase our reserves to 4 months of operating expenses. We typically have 2-3 months of operating on hand. The ultimate goal would be to have a minimum of six months of reserves or even an endowment fund to ensure the long term viability of our agency. After six months our success include:

Success

  • Hiring Julie Bice as Director of Outreach and Development

  • Creating a Fund Development Committee

  • Exceeding $125,000 on Giving Day

Opportunity

  • Increase the number of recurring donors

  • Move retention rate to 60%

  • Develop ongoing partnerships with corporate donors

Goal 2: Space Evaluation

Over the past few years we have been open about our hopes to secure a property for a non-congregate shelter. In this area our goal is to have a site identified by the end of the year. There have been many opportunities that have not panned out. We are on target to have this goal accomplished by the end of the year.

Success

Progress has been made on securing a viable site. More to come in the next few months.

Opportunity

Next step will be to secure funding.

Goal 3: Organizational Structure

Growing from 2.5 to 8.5 staff member has been a significant change. This goal is focused on ensuring that we have the systems in place to hire, train and support the staff, provide clear direction, evaluation and accountability, examine pay structure and benefits, strategies for board recruitment, and orientation of board members.

6 new staff members joined our team this spring.
6 new staff members joined our team this spring.

Success

  • Hiring 6 new staff members who are excellent!

  • Updating employee manual

Opportunities

  • Develop an Operational Manual

  • Become more intentional in board recruitment

Goal 4: Community Building /Program

Moving to the Apartment Shelter Program has been beneficial to families but has challenged us in finding meaningful ways to engage volunteers. This goal will focus on implementing volunteer opportunities that are helpful for the families, meaningful for clients, and grow the partnerships with new groups.

Success

  • Redefined partnership expectations

  • Established monthly collections and activities

  • Return to regular VC meetings

Opportunities

  • Build relationships with an additional 10-15 partners

  • Fine tune criteria for stabilization program

These are important strategies for the future of Family Promise of Waukesha County. We know you love and are committed to the families we serve. We welcome your thoughts, questions and feedback .
