WHAT WE DO
Family Promise of Waukesha County helps our community to coordinate their compassion to address the root causes of family homelessness. We address the issue holistically, providing prevention services before families reach crisis, shelter and case management when they become homeless, and stabilization programs once they have secured housing to ensure they remain independent. We tap existing local resources to empower families towards economic stability. Families come to us in crisis; we help them rebuild their lives with new skills and ongoing support.

Rental assistance and prevention matter to a community because they protect the stability, dignity, and economic health of everyone who lives there.

Emergency shelters are critical resources—but they aren’t the only option. For many families, shelter diversion means:
-
Avoiding trauma and instability
-
Staying connected to schools, jobs, and support systems
-
Finding long-term housing faster
-
Keeping dignity, hope, and control over your journey

Shelter matters because it provides safety, stability, and dignity. It’s more than just a roof over your head—shelter offers protection from the elements, a secure place to sleep, and a foundation for families to rebuild their lives. Without safe shelter, people face increased risks to their health, well-being, and overall security.
