BECOME A PARTNER
WHAT IS A STATIC SHELTER?
Family Promise’s shelter program was best known for being a rotational model that provides temporary housing in partner host sites, usually congregations. However, there is another Family Promise model that can be successful, the static site. In this model, the host site volunteers come to a designated, stationary site to serve families experiencing homelessness. We are hoping to implement this model starting in April, 2023.
WHY IS SHELTER NECESSARY?
In 2022 we received over 800 requests for shelter. The needs of families are growing. Homelessness is a destructive and chaotic force. Having a home gives children and families an anchor that allows them to thrive. Without a home, we know that children are more likely to drop out of school, have higher rates of mental health issues, less access to health care and more likely to become chronically homeless as an adult. 69% of families who exit our shelter find permanent and independent housing. This program will allow us to impact the lives of more families and children.

This model will be implemented beginning April 2023
It will take place at the Waukesha Overflow Shelter located at 1210 Sentry Dr, Waukesha WI 53186

Gather information

Recruit volunteers

Make a commitment

Reach out to your group members

Create a list of volunteers excited to support our families

Plan to schedule 2-5 volunteers from 5-8 pm for one recurring day each month

Select leadership

Select a contact person to communicate with FP

Training

Two online training courses - completed at your own pace

One in person session

Anyone with direct contact must be trained
