GIVING DAY 2026

Stability Starts With Us

Our theme for Giving Day this year is “Stability Starts With Us.” It starts with a community that believes every family deserves a safe place to call home. At Family Promise of Waukesha County, our mission is to prevent and end family homelessness by providing shelter, compassionate support, and personalized resources that lead to lasting independence. We walk alongside families during some of their most challenging moments, offering not just a place to stay, but a path forward. But we can’t do it alone. Lasting impact happens when a community comes together.

This Giving Day, we’re calling on neighbors, businesses, and supporters to be part of the solution. Our goal is to raise $135,000 to ensure more families can access critical housing support, avoid homelessness, and build a foundation for a stable future.Because when our community shows up, stability becomes possible for everyone.

Jenny’s Journey to Stability with Family Promise of Waukesha County

This is a Q&A with Jenny, a previous Family Promise Shelter guest and current Stabilization client. During a challenging time, she turned to Family Promise for help finding stability for herself and her two young boys. She shares her experiences, accomplishments, and what having a safe, stable home has meant for her family.

Q: What led you to seek support from Family Promise?

A: I reached out to Family Promise during one of the most difficult times in my life. I felt completely overwhelmed and unsure how I could care for myself and my two young boys. I needed support, someone to guide me, help me find stability, and give me hope that we could move forward.

Q: How did staff, volunteers, or the community impact your experience?

A: The support I received from Family Promise and the community has been truly life-changing. As a single mother navigating a crisis, I felt seen, heard, and cared for. Family Promise helped me every step of the way, providing tools, resources, and guidance to set up a foundation for success. They reminded me that there are good people in the world, and that help can arrive when you need it most. Their encouragement strengthened my confidence and gave me hope for a better future.

Q:How would your situation have been different without the support you received in shelter?

A: Without Family Promise, I honestly fear our situation could have stayed stuck, or even become worse. Their support gave me a real chance to break the cycle, create a safe, stable home, and move forward with my children. They gave us the opportunity to heal, grow, and build something lasting.

Q: What are you most proud of accomplishing while in the program?

A: I’m most proud of creating a stable, loving home for my boys and taking the steps to start my own small business. This program gave me the encouragement I needed to believe in myself and my abilities. Along the way, I built meaningful connections that became a true support network. I feel stronger, more capable, and ready to navigate life on my own.

Q: What does stability look like for you today?

A: Stability means having a secure home, a predictable routine for my children, and the confidence that we can meet our basic needs without fear. It’s the freedom to plan for the future and the peace of mind knowing that our daily lives are safe and steady.

Q: What does having a safe place to stay mean to you?

A: Having a safe place to stay is more than just having a roof over our heads, it’s peace of mind, security for my children, and the space to heal and grow. It’s the foundation from which we can dream, pursue independence, and build a better life together.

Q: If you could share one message about your experience, what would it be?

A:Family Promise doesn’t just provide shelter, they provide hope, tools, and a pathway to self-sufficiency. To anyone going through a crisis: help is out there, there are people who care, and your situation can improve.
