Hello, my name is Melissa Smith. I previously had the privilege of calling Family Promise my home in 2016 as a single mother with three of my children and one on the way. Family Promise gave me the skills to be successful to continue writing my story. They also empowered  me to enroll in Waukesha County Technical College . Presently, I am three classes from obtaining my master’s degree in social work at UWM. I moved to Madison in 2020 and married my husband in 2023. I also work at a mental health institute as a CNA. Apart from my four children and one stepson, I have a two-year-old grandson, two dogs and two cats. 

 

In my free time I enjoy going hiking, camping, reading, fishing and being involved with my church family. My favorite quote was written by one of my favorite author’s C.S. Lewis. “You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the beginning.” I am excited to be at a point in my life where I have a stable living situation, a prestigious place of employment, and am able to give back to the community from which I came from by being on the board. I am also delighted to attempt to make it possible for families that are struggling to pick up their pen and continue writing their story while we provide the paper.
