03. SENTRY DRIVE
The Housing Action Coalition of Waukesha County Board of Directors has approved a plan to expand services at the 1210 Sentry Drive building, providing year round services through a partnership with Hebron Housing Services. This plan will expand shelter space by 13 individual beds and add one room designed for larger families. The decision was made because of the growing need for shelter and the challenges experienced the past two years of only using the facility during the winter months.
The Sentry House will provide shelter to single men and women. Single women will be moving from Juno House while single men will move from Siena House. Juno House will be able to add one more room for families while Siena House will extend shelter services for six men who are near housing stability but require extra time to secure permanent housing.
It is important for us to share this information with you since Family Promise of Waukesha County has been involved in using the facility in a number of ways over the past two years. We are hopeful that these changes will allow our community to better address the shelter needs in our community.
Everyone is invited to an Open House on Monday June 9th at 3pm. The celebration will include an Opening Ceremony followed by tours and treats .

05. INFANT AND TODDLER HOMELESSNESS
A 23% increase in infant and toddler homelessness from 2022 to 2023
Community
A new report compiled by SchoolHouse Connection and Poverty Solutions at the University of Michigan completed a study on infant and toddler homelessness. Alarmingly they discovered that there is are 82,000 more infants and toddlers experiencing homelessness. This is a 23% increase. This is disturbing because we know that homelessness has a profoundly negative impact on early childhood development. It can harm a child's physical, emotional, and cognitive development. Children in unstable living conditions are at higher risk for developmental delays and health issues. Adverse childhood experiences, which homelessness is one, can bring about a trauma response which lasts a life-time.

Responding to these trends is essential as a community. We cannot fail these children. Nor can fail ourselves. The long term effects of homelessness will have a ripple effect and touch all of us.
Overall the study found that:
Nearly 450,000 infants and toddlers (ages birth through three) experienced homelessness across the U.S. in 2022–2023.
The number of infants and toddlers experiencing homelessness increased by 23% over the past two years—an estimated 82,000 additional young children.
Only 10% of infants and toddlers experiencing homelessness were served by federal early childhood programs—a decline from the previous year.
You can read the full report or watch the webinar when the report was released.
